Hood Street Art Center Creative Director Lucas Garzoli sits down with Rusty Taylor, the owner of Second Hand Smoke Guitars out of McDonough, GA, to talk about the first ever Cigar Box Guitar Festival in the state. The festival is coming up soon, on Saturday, September 9th, from Noon until 10PM, and will feature local artisans, live musical performances from musicians from around the Southeast, and of course, cigar box guitars. Rusty talks about the inception of the festival, and also tells us about an integral moment in the creation of the Hood Street Art Center.

Wendy Menard, one of the first resident artists at the Hood Street Art Center, has a unique story here in our community. She is preparing move back to her hometown of LaFayette, Louisiana, with her two children and husband. Since being here at the art center, she blossomed into her own creative voice, thanks to a little push from her mentor, Andy Davis. We are going to miss her smile, talent, and friendly presence here in the hallways from her little studio window.

Jeremy LeMahieu is best known for his ephemeral installations emphasizing the cyclical structure of improving one’s self. To make the conceptual installations, materials are bought from home improvement stores and installed in transitional spaces such as vacant lots.
