My name is Wendy Menard. I am a self taught artist. Painting was a gift given to me by my husband, Brian and our Lord. At 38 years old, I picked up my first paint brush and palette knife. Painting has helped me deal with many stressful situations in my life. I was a school teacher for 15 years with a Master’s Degree in Education.
In August of 2011, I was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor called an Acoustic Neuroma. On October 25, 2011, I underwent brain surgery to remove the tumor. Although the doctors removed the entire tumor, I was left with many side effects such as deafness in the right ear, constant ringing in my right ear, balance issues, vertigo, and facial paralysis.
God brought painting into my life because he knew my journey would take a completely different path. Since my surgery I am currently disabled and I do not teach in the classroom setting, the Lord used painting as a tool for me to keep going with a purpose in my life. I believe God gave me the gift of painting as therapy.
When I paint, I pour my whole heart into it. I am completely focused on the artwork I am creating.
Since I picked up my first paint brush in 2010, I have sold many paintings to family and friends. It is a way of contributing back to my family finances. Currently I am taking online art courses using a palette knife. Currently, I paint landscapes, florals, seascapes, and some wildlife.
My next adventure is to use only the palette knife to paint different subjects such as: cityscapes, nudes, portraits, animals, and genre paintings. In every painting I want to bring a positive vibe into the homes or businesses my art will be placed in.
My painting techniques I currently use are: the wet on wet technique, and painting with the palette knife only. It is my hope you will enjoy my paintings as much as I enjoy creating them. I reside in McDonough with my husband Brian of 21 years and my children Mark 17 and Marissa 11.
